Old Spice Shaving - Frequently Asked Questions

Multiple blades distribute pressure evenly across the blades, giving you a closer, smoother shave in fewer strokes. Fewer strokes help reduce the risk of nicks, cuts and skin irritation, while allowing you to get more shaves per razor.

The Old Spice® Lube Zones, when activated by water, provide lubrication and moisture while shaving, allowing the blades to glide on the skin. This makes your shave more comfortable, and decreases the risk of skin irritation.

Yes, they help give you a more comfortable shave. Applying a cream or gel before shaving softens and lifts hairs for easier shaving. It also provides better razor glide for a closer, smoother shave.

We recommend shaving in the same direction of hair growth for the most comfortable shave. Shaving in the opposite direction of hair growth (“against the grain”) may give you a closer shave, but this increases the risk of skin irritation.

Between 5 and 7 shaves per blade, depending on your beard type and shaving conditions. If you have very fine hair, you’ll probably have to change blades less frequently. Changing your razor more often provides a closer, more comfortable shave. In addition, lubricating strips work best during the first 5 to 7 shaves.

We recommend reading our Six Steps for a Ship Shape Shave for detailed information on getting a smooth shave while minimizing irritation and razor burn.

However, here are a few basics to get you started:
  • Shaving works best on skin that has soaked in warm water for a few minutes. Water helps soften your facial hair and makes it easier to shave.

  • Apply shave cream or gel to provide lubrication. We recommend using one of our Old Spice® Shave Creams, which are specially formulated to protect against nicks, cuts and irritation.

  • Use a razor with multiple blades such as the Old Spice® 4-Blade Razor. More blades require fewer strokes for shaving which reduces the risk of razor burn & irritation.

  • Also, changing blades frequently (at least once a week) will allow your razor to glide over your skin without irritating it. Be sure to use plenty of moisturizing shave cream as an added cushion for your skin.

  • Replace your disposable razor often. A sharp blade will give you a closer, more comfortable shave. In addition, new blades require less pressure to get a good shave, which reduces the risk of nicks, cuts and irritation.

Always rinse the hair and shave cream or gel residue from the blades to keep them in tip-top shape. Let the blades air-dry after shaving. Never wipe them, as this can cause the blades to dull prematurely.
